There is something, which
You will never understand, no matter
How I try to explain myself, you have already
Judged me. Blacks and unmerging whites,
You have me, put in a box. That I belong there
Might just be a coincidence.
Should I be grateful you do not
Control my dreams? That I can, when
Asleep, still touch your lips to mine, that
I never let you go, that I held on to you
After morning came and went, and this
Warmth was not lost, that I wrapped you
All around myself, and succeeded. That, you
Stayed in the not-too cold blanket I wrapped
All around the bed, that you stayed, in the scarlet
Sun which rose in the night-light.
You are here, and there, and
Nowhere. In my life, you are
No longer. How to forget you
Is a question which should, by rights
Be yours’. But here I am, trying to live.
With a burden of remembering. And
A love to forget.
//You have me, put in a box. That I belong there
ReplyDeleteMight just be a coincidence.

ReplyDeleteHey Anne, those exact lines leapt out to me as well!
ReplyDeleteI also love how it ends.

ReplyDeleteMy favorite lines, had someone else written this poem, would have been:
"That, you
Stayed in the not-too cold blanket I wrapped
All around the bed, that you stayed, in the scarlet
Sun which rose in the night-light."
@seo blog in egypt:
Are you real? And yes, I guess I am something of a romantic. Perhaps not in the conventional sense.
